Denise Calisti

What makes a great masterpiece? The infinite question on every artist's mind. For Denise Calisti, her passion for art, began in early childhood. On her way to catch the bus to Kindergarten, she would take a path through a wooded area, that lead to quaint old homes with porches where neighbors would sit, crochet, and visit with one another. The shadows of mature trees filtered down on the lawns and gardens. Life was simple and pure. Memories like these are calming and pleasant and her paintings capture these wonderful feelings.

Denise was born in Wisconsin and came to Southern Maryland at the age of 10. She studied art under Larry Chappelear for many years, and continued her education at George Washington University. The "Great Impressionists" inspired her to study abroad in the Brittany region of France. Today, beach towns and disappearing local properties are her favorite subjects. Aging architecture, sultry farms in the summer's heat, botanicals, and snowy winter scenes, are all part of her "great masterpieces".

Denise Calisti's artwork can be viewed at the Gallery Jamel, located in Waldorf, MD (301)870-6570 and at Carmen's Gallery, located in Solomons, MD (410)326-2549
